Jason Goldwatch is a Los Angeles-based Director and Editor best known for his music videos for some of hip hop’s finest rappers. A brief collection would include Nas, Jay Z, Kid Kudi, Common, Schoolboy Q, Pusha T, Alchemist, Evidence, Conway the Machine, Atmosphere, The Roots, Action Bronson and Kool Keith. He began his career as the youngest director signed to Spike Jonze’s production company, Satellite, then moved on to starting his own production company and record label, Decon, with Peter Bittenbender, which ended up partnering with Nas to purchase Mass Appeal Magazine and then transformed to Mass Appeal Records which has seen considerable success with artists like Run the Jewels, Nas, Boldy James and Dave East. Goldwatch ended up relocating from NY back to Los Angeles to return to his creative roots as a one-man operation, shooting and editing music videos in whatever manner he pleases, which has, in turn, opened up a new creative period for him based on using found footage in combination with shot footage to create something new, licensing be damned. This ongoing style has recently culminated in an album-length project for Atmosphere, called The Day Before Halloween. A 40 minute odyssey of found footage, or upcycled footage, cut into a psychedelic horror on the astral plane.
